The DataKirk
About us

Digital Literacy for All

The DataKirk is an Edinburgh-based SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) working with young people and adults, demonstrating ways to be more inclusive and sustainable with data.

Our mission

To close both the attainment gap and the data divide by creating the conditions for people from less-advantaged backgrounds to access and sustain data analytics jobs.

Our purpose

The objects of the social enterprise are the advancement of education through the provision of formal and informal training in data literacy and analytics, to schools and further education colleges, and across the public, private and voluntary sectors, including community groups.

A Scottish charity. OSCR registered no. SC049344

Our story

At The DataKirk, we believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Since 2019, we have reached over 25,000 people and upskilled more than 2,000 learners across Scotland through data literacy, digital inclusion, and community-led innovation.

Now, as we expand into North East England through our sister company Syncplex Lab, our mission grows stronger: to build bridges where gaps exist, in education, employment, gender, and generational poverty.

In 2025, we were honoured to receive the Tech for Good Award from Social Enterprise Awards Scotland, a testament to the impact of our community-driven model. But real change doesn't happen in isolation. It happens with you.

Our key areas

Three ways we create change.

01

Building Bridges

At DataKirk, we focus on fostering connections between diverse communities, organisations, and individuals, promoting inclusivity and understanding through collaboration and shared initiatives.

By creating opportunities for collaboration and dialogue, we aim to bridge gaps, promote inclusivity, and build a stronger, more connected society.

02

Closing the Data & Attainment Gap

Our programme dedicated to closing the data and attainment gap targets the disparities in data literacy and educational achievement.

We provide tailored support, resources, and training to underrepresented groups, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the digital economy.

03

Talent Pipeline

We develop and support a robust talent pipeline by providing training, mentorship, and career opportunities, ensuring a steady flow of skilled professionals ready to meet industry demands.

Through strategic training, mentorship, and placement opportunities, we prepare individuals to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to their industries.

Our digital skills framework

Five pillars, one talent pipeline.

We work across five connected pillars to create lasting change, from childhood to career.

01

Children

Reduce poverty, close attainment gaps, and build confidence.

02

Young People

Bridge digital divides, future-proof skills, and unlock calling.

03

Gender

Close gender gaps in tech and promote upward mobility.

04

Family

Break cycles of deprivation and foster financial wellness.

05

Professionals

Advance equity, wellbeing, and career progression.

Who we serve

Meeting people where the barriers are.

Priority 1

Underemployed & unemployed adults

Adults currently without a job but actively seeking work, or disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, especially underserved parents with a child under 18. Vocational training includes Introduction to Data Science & AI for Business, data visualisation, and managing and analysing data with Excel and Power BI.

Priority 2

Young people facing barriers

Young people with migratory and low-socioeconomic backgrounds. We help them develop STEM skills, re-engage with learning, and grow confidence, resilience and aspiration, alongside digital and life skills for positive destinations.

Priority 3

Underserved communities

Communities who need access to learning and support to remove barriers. We provide digital and life skills and the chance to connect with wider communities, through CV MOTs, career fairs, study support and mentoring.

Our team

The people behind the mission

A dedicated community of leaders committed to a future where data and AI are accessible, inclusive, and transformative for everyone.
