Data Skills for Housing Professionals - request for feedback!

The DataKirk want to hear from housing professionals! This
survey, combined with our further research, will help us define the data skills needs of housing professionals and how they are currently being served.
Our objective is to define a data skills strategy that supports the housing and homeless sectors and to identify further opportunities for our organisation to develop the data upskilling of housing professionals into housing data analysis roles.
This is your opportunity to share your views on the data skills needs and provisions of the housing industry. All responses will be aggregated anonymously, should we wish to quote a specific source later we will seek permission from the author.

Update from DataKirk

DataKirk response to COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis
On 4th January 2021, the Scottish government announced school closures for a second time to help curb the spread of Covid-19. Schools will begin a phased return from 22nd February.

DataKirk has taken the decision to suspend all face to face activities until after this date. We are looking at ways to supplement the missed sessions later in the year with activities such as spring/summer revision days. We know face-to-face sessions are important for our learners, and we intend to resume them as soon as it is safe to do so.

We have been officially approved by The National Tutoring Programme to deliver tutoring to pupils at home. We piloted our home-based approach as part of a national evaluation of online tutoring delivery in 2020.

It's our ambition to continue as many virtual learning programmes as possible during lockdown to support our learners where they need it most. We know that every hour of virtual learning delivered will make a big difference to the young people we help. We are consulting with our learners and mentors to discuss how to improve our virtual learning during this new lockdown.

Our tutoring will be needed now more than ever before, to help make up for the time lost. If you know someone that you think would be interested in volunteering to help us, please encourage them to fill out a mentor registration form and join the DataKirk team!

Christmas Message from DataKirk

DataKirk will close for the year on 22nd December and resume 12th January 2021
Compliments of season to all the DataKirk family and our partners!

On behalf of DataKirk Management, we wish you and your family a heart-warming, relaxing, fantastic Christmas holiday. Christmas is a season of joy and thanksgiving; therefore, we would like to express our gratitude for our learners, our mentors for their commitment, and to our partners for the great support through 2020. This year has been successful for the DataKirk despite the COVID-19 challenges and we couldn’t have achieved this without you!

This is a great time to show appreciation to all our learners, mentors, partners, and management including the BOT for their commitment and dedication throughout 2020. We have put together a DataKirk Christmas Winter Festival on 22nd of December, to celebrate one another. We believe the program will help to inspire both our learners and mentors for the coming new year.

In 2021, we have exciting plans and programs, and we will be starting an employability project and STEM Community Education Tutoring in January 2021. We hope that the holiday period will be relaxing and provides an opportunity to get refreshed for the challenges of the coming year.

We are happy to inform you that DataKirk will be closing 2020 activities on 23rd December and we will resume back on Tuesday of 12th January 2012.

We wish you all merry Christmas and a glorious New year

Data Literacy & Analytics Club for 9-19yrs

NOTICE: SUMMER HOLIDAY PROVISION
The DataKirk's weekly club is now on break for the summer period and will recommence on Tuesday, 8th September 2020.

While we all take a well deserved break, we would encourage our learners to continue engaging with the learning materials on Google Classrooms to further reinforce data literacy. You can find tutorials for both our younger and older learner groups either on our YouTube channel or on the new Learning Resources section of our website.

Chuks and Fash are available to support any learners who may need help during the break. To get in touch please email us on info@thedatakirk.org.uk.

We would like to thank all of you for your support in our first year - it has been great to see the engagement from our members with the curriculum that our mentors have built. We wish all our learners, parents and guardians a relaxing summer holidays after all the hard work over the last six months.

Best Regards,

Chuks Ododo (on behalf of DataKirk)

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Statement regarding the ongoing provision of DataKirk during the Covid-19 pandemic:

We fully understand the impact school closures are having on families due to the current Coronavirus situation. Therefore, we are moving the teaching of our data literacy club online and are working hard to ensure lesson materials are put online by end of the March so that weekly session can resume 7th April.

As part of our commitment to empowering data enthusiasts with data literacy and analytics skills, we are introducing them to the use of Google classroom, where all the learning materials will be available online.

Each learner will have a unique identification number and email account to enable access to Google Classroom. Learners can access Google Classroom 24/7 on the web or via the Android and iOS Google Classroom mobile apps.

We would encourage parents or guardians to include their email with their children's account, which will give them access to the weekly task, course materials and enable them to support and monitor progress.

In view of the above, we would like the parents/guardians to complete a new permission form via this link. This is for safeguarding and compliance purposes!

If your child should have problem remembering their password, please contact the Volunteer Program Manager, Hettie Baker, via
henrietta.baker@thedatakirk.org.uk to reset it.

Further information on the online weekly data literacy club will be communicated to you shortly.

Best Regards

Chuks Ododo
