Connecting Generations Through Technology: DataKirk’s Digital & AI Open Day in Newcastle

What happens when young people and adults come together to explore AI and digital skills?

At DataKirk’s Digital & AI Intergenerational Open Day in Newcastle, it created something powerful a shared learning experience that brought different generations together through technology.

Participants worked side by side, exploring how AI works in the real world, taking part in hands-on challenges, and building ideas collaboratively. Young people brought creativity and confidence with new technologies, while adults contributed perspective and curiosity. The result was a space where learning went both ways.

Rather than focusing purely on technical skills, the session was about making technology accessible and relevant. Through practical activities and open discussion, participants were able to break down common barriers around AI, seeing it not as something distant or complex, but as something they can understand and engage with.

More importantly, the day was about building confidence. Whether it was a young person sharing ideas or an adult trying something new, the environment encouraged participation, collaboration, and curiosity without pressure.

This is why intergenerational learning matters. It doesn’t just build digital skills it strengthens communities, bridges gaps in access, and creates shared understanding in a rapidly changing world.

As technology continues to shape every aspect of life, creating inclusive spaces like this ensures that no one is left behind.

At DataKirk, we’re committed to continuing this work bringing people together, opening up access to AI and digital learning, and creating opportunities for everyone to be part of the future.
